Every year, billions of dollars are thrown towards expensive lotions and potions to treat skin issues such as dryness, acne, wrinkles and sun damage. What many consumers fail to recognize is that the most effective beauty cure-all on the market does not come in a pretty bottle or a jar, but comes from balancing proper hydration and good nutrition. Here’s some advice on how to quench your skin’s thirst from the inside out.
Drink Water: Dehydration can and will affect the appearance, elasticity, texture and general health of your skin. Water is the building block for every cell in your body and it is responsible for keeping the skin moisturized from the inside out. The most effective measure you can take to improve the appearance of your skin is to simply DRINK ENOUGH WATER. The body absorbs approximately four ounces of water every ten minutes; therefore, water needs to be at the top of your nutrition regimen. Get creative by adding lime, lemon or mint to add a little twist to your water. In the morning on an empty stomach, try adding the juice of one lemon and a bit of honey to warm water for an amazing liver detoxifier to keep skin clean and clear.

Juicing: Juicing allows for easy digestion and the speedy absorption of a healthy mix of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and antioxidants, besides hydrating the skin. It’s best to aim for fruits and veggies containing high levels of vitamins A, C and B complexes to increase blood circulation, and allow for healthier skin cells. Carrot juice is an excellent remedy for treating acne because it contains powerful cleansing properties that detoxify the liver and contains a large amount of vitamin C which helps in preventing blemishes. A glass of carrot juice for example, will supply 20,000 mg of vitamin A, which helps in preventing the skin tissue from drying out. Green juices are also a beauty must because they balance the body’s pH level, and rid the body of acidic waste products; so the skin doesn’t have to do all of the detox work. The polyphenols are plant chemicals which assist in preventing sun damage and in turn, slow the aging of skin. Research published in the Journal of Nutrition showed women who drank 4 cups of green tea per day for 12 weeks lowered their risk of sunburn by 25 percent, and exhibited improved skin density and elasticity—qualities that make skin look clearer and younger.

Black Tea: The polyphenols found in black tea are also very strong antioxidants, making this tea an important part of ones diet. The low caffeine content of black tea aids circulation, but does not negatively affect the body like sugary coffee drinks. It also aids the body in balancing the hormone levels, which is important to control blemishes and breakouts. Try using a warm black tea bag as an astringent or to calm puffy eyes/ spots /blemishes.
Aloe Vera Juice: This special juice contains over 200 active components including Vitamins (A, C, E, folic acid, and choline, B1, B2, B3, B6 and B12), calcium, magnesium, zinc, chromium, selenium, sodium, iron, potassium, copper, manganese, amino acids, enzymes, polysaccharide, and fatty acids. A clear gel (99% water-based) is extracted from the hardy leaf and mixed with water to soften, hydrate, moisturize, alkalize and rejuvenate the skin. Red Wine: In moderation, researchers have found that proanthocyanidins, antioxidants found in red grapes, may help to prevent oxidative reactions in your skin. Oxidative reactions, often a result of sun exposure, can damage and kill cells, which in turn leads to aging of the skin and even possibly skin cancer. With this said, it is of course important to keep in mind that EXCESS alcohol of any kind can cause series issues within the body. So, limit your wine consumption to no more than a few glasses a week.
